"The Guardians of Mozambique’s Coasts" is a film that forms part of the Blue Horizons series, presented by the World Ocean Council and produced by BBC StoryWorks.
The series highlights the intrinsic connection between communities and the ocean. This particular film focuses on a coastal Mozambican community's relationship with mangroves and how they work to protect these vital ecosystems.
As an editor, I was thrilled to find the stories within the glorious footage, shot and graded by DP Freddie Reed. I was guided and supported by the fabulous BBC StoryWorks team and Senior Editor Nick Lear at Mannenberg Films.
Our heroine Anabela, a climate advocate and leader in her community, joins with other women in an initiative involving beekeeping in the mangroves to produce honey to produce alternative income whilst protecting and restoring the mangrove forests, that protect the coast.
These efforts help mitigate climate change impacts and preserve the biodiversity and livelihood of the coastal regions (Aga Khan Foundation UK). For more information and to watch the film, you can visit the BBC StoryWorks page (non-UK only)
